Our philosophy

Visiting Kolarbyn and the Swedish country side is more than an unforgettable nature experience. It is also an important contribution to the local economy.

Your contribution to nature & culture

During your visit you will get the chance to take part of traditional Scandinavian culture and experience what is special and unique for the Bergslagen region. The food served is often biologically produced by local farmers and our eco-friendly forest huts belongs to the local community. As a participant of our tours you also help to preserve local nature and cultural traditions since a part of your fee is used directly to support such projects. Our guides will be eager to tell you more about our on-going projects during your stay.

Help us support endangered species

Help us conserve endangered species. Since 2007 we have contributed funds to the World Wildlife Fund, WWF to support their work to protect endangered species in Scandinavia. We have chosen to support Skandulv, a Scandinavian WWF project with focus on Wolf conservation. For each guest participating in any of our Moose Safari or Wolf Howling Tours we will donate SEK 50 to Skandulv.

Project Charcoal

In August 2004 Kolarbyn initialized a project to preserve the culture of traditional charcoal burning. The supply of charcoal has been a prerequisite for the ironing industry and hence the econimic growth of the Bergslagen region for nearly two thousand years. Today few people know about the charcoal burning, and an important era in history may be forgotten. Our goal is to spread knowledge about the culture and inspire younger generations to learn more about their history by inviting them to participate in work-shops and events on charcoal burning and the ironing process. Kolarbyn is a historic charcoal burning site with genuine replicas of huts used by charcoal workers. Our hosts will be eager to tell you more about on-going projects as you arrive.
