Imagine days of deep unwinding and freedom, where everyday stress and obligations feel a world away. Deep in the forests of Bergslagen, a truly immersive nature escape awaits – everything is included!

Stay in a cosy charcoal hut, enjoy delicious meals, and let the forest become your living room. Forget planning – everything you need is here: hiking trails, sleeping bags, and a ready-packed food basket…

The highlight?

A private wood-fired tub, your own forest spa by the lake! Settle into the warm water, listen to the silence, and let nature restore your inner calm. You might even hear the haunting call of the loon echo across the lake, or a distant wolf howl from the marshlands.

An unforgettable experience under the open sky – after all, we are a hotel with hundreds of stars ✨

Day 1

You’ll check in to your cosy hut, where sleeping bags and a generous food basket are waiting. After a guided tour, you’ll settle in and choose a perfect dinner spot in the woods. Chop firewood and warm up the sauna, enjoy a refreshing dip in the lake, and drift off to sleep by the flickering glow of your fire.

Day 2

After a peaceful night in your hut, begin your day with a quiet forest walk before breakfast. Fetch water from the spring, brew fresh coffee over the fire, and perhaps cook pancakes topped with wild blueberries? Our well-stocked forest pantry has everything you need for a morning feast. After breakfast, paddle out across the lake, take a swim, or try your hand at fishing.

When hunger returns, gather fresh ingredients from the forest pantry for a tasty lunch. In the afternoon, you’ll prepare the tub and light the fire as the sun begins to set. End your day with a relaxing soak in your forest bath, surrounded by deep woodland calm at the water’s edge. Beneath a sparkling sky and the soft sounds of nature, the moment turns magical – the perfect way to end your day before curling up in your hut.

The next day

Still craving the silence, the fire, and that wonderful off-grid feeling? Stay longer! We warmly recommend extending your visit. From day three onwards, you’ll have full access to our forest pantry so you can continue cooking over an open flame. You can also book the sauna, a canoe or rowing boat at a reduced price. For longer stays, we’ll happily lend you a fire striker and show you how to start a fire like a true woodsman.

Final day

Even the most treasured moments must come to an end. After a final breakfast in the peaceful woods, it’s time to check out. We hope to welcome you back whenever you long for nature’s quiet embrace.

Check-out by 11:00.

❣️ And if we had to guess, based on what other guests have told us – by day three you’ll feel completely at home in the forest. You might want to explore further, hike to a nearby nature reserve, book an evening elk or beaver safari, or wander into the nearest village for a cold ice cream. Or maybe you’ll just stay by the fire, challenging yourself to light it in different ways 🔥Or perhaps you’ll linger in your hut a while longer. It’s blissful to rest on those soft sheepskin rugs. You peek through the door – and there’s a tiny goldcrest watching you. Sweden’s smallest bird weighs just five grams – lighter than a sheet of paper – yet it survives even the harshest winters here. They’re common in Kolarbyn, but rarely seen – fast, curious and shy, they hide in the thickest spruce branches 🪶After a nap, you realise it’s lunchtime. You grab a bucket and walk to the spring for fresh water – it makes the afternoon coffee taste heavenly… but only if you remembered to ask the forest spirit for permission first.

Guest Reviews

“Magical enchantead fairyland. The hostess leaves you from about 5 and you get a lot of confidence in managing yourself. Everything is very well organised and nothing is missing. They also have the nices compost outhouse you ever have been on. – and YES they have of course a sauna, the coolest sauna ever”

“Thank you for the incredible place Kolarbyn is. It was amazing to be able to experience the Swedish landscape and to just get away from the craziness of life for a bit. It is one of my favourite places in Europe and I hope that many others get to experience its wonder”

“Great place! The lodges are beautiful and the place is super charming. We really enjoyed our stay. Breakfast was fantastic and everything is well organized in a way that it makes it easy to be outside even if you’re not too used to it”

“I just wanted to say that it was a really wonderful and unique experience, one which I will remember and treasure for a long time
It was truly back to basics but truly wonderful stay just to relax and enjoy wild Sweden!
Especially the floating sauna was all kinds of wonderful (definitely last night when the lake was frozen and full moon was shining).
If the snow had come in yesterday it would have been even more magical but that would have been the cherry on top. I got a good look this morning with the snow already.
I wish you all the best and thank you again for an awesome stay, I truly enjoyed it!”
Marnick, Luxemburg

“Last week me and my girlfriend spent one night at Kolarbyn. Kolarbyn it’s a magical, stunning, unreal place. To those who ask me how Kolarbyn is I reply that “I’m agnostic, but if
there is a paradise, a Valhalla or something else I hope it looks like Kolarbyn”. I guess that many people will tell you how amazing Kolarbyn is and how fascinating your personality is in that forest. But I really left something of my heart in that wood”
Paolo, Italy

“A sauna dream
The Kolarbyn adventure is fantastic. Top of the list for me was the floating sauna on the lake, followed by swims in the lake – oh it was so good! but I also enjoyed cutting wood, tracking the progress of the charcoal burners’ pit in August – they were up all night watching.
I shall never look at an English wrap in the same light again – they do their picnic food properly in Kolarbyn!  We bonded well too with the other Kolarbyn adventurers and shared many a laugh at our attempts to live ‘wild’. Kolarbyn gave us lots of support in this gentle introduction to living in nature at the eco lodge -I particularly liked being greeted by two lit candles when we arrived at our hut, and the ‘hoover’ marzipan sweets Malin brought us on the second day for our dessert – unexpected little touches that made the moment special. The people, including Malin who greeted us and came every day to sort out food etc, were absolutely lovely – kind, friendly, polite, cheerful and almost courtly at times. A very special holiday indeed.”

“It has been a week since we returned from Sweden – we had such a great time, meeting the nicest of people and seeing beautiful places. Our stay at Kolarbyn was definitely one of the absolute highlights, from the lovely hut to the beautiful surrounding and don’t forget the Sauna/bastu 😉
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you for having us and for keeping this wonderful place alive
all the best”
